Assam Rifles holds cancer awareness drive

June 10, 2026 | BK News Service

Silchar, June 9: The Assam Rifles, under Spear Corps, continued its community outreach initiatives by organizing a cancer awareness and healthcare assistance programme in coordination with Cachar Cancer Hospital and the Major Ashish Kumar Roy Foundation.

The awareness drive focused on educating local communities about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of timely medical consultation. Health experts and specialists engaged with residents, highlighting risk factors, symptoms, and available treatment options, while also encouraging regular screening for early diagnosis.
Officials said the initiative is part of a sustained effort by the Assam Rifles to improve healthcare awareness in remote and underserved regions, particularly in sensitive border and hill areas.
In a parallel outreach effort, a specialist medical team conducted a riverine medical camp in Kangrengdhor village in Manipur’s Pherzawl district. The team travelled by boat to reach the remote location, providing essential healthcare services including basic check-ups, consultations, and distribution of medicines to villagers who have limited access to medical facilities.
Residents of Kangrengdhor expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that such outreach programmes play a crucial role in addressing healthcare gaps in geographically isolated areas.
The combined initiatives reflect the ongoing humanitarian and civic action efforts of the Spear Corps, aimed at improving public health awareness and ensuring last-mile delivery of essential services in remote regions.
