Assam Rifles holds drug awareness drives

May 08, 2026 | BK News Service

Imphal, May 7: Assam Rifles under Spear Corps conducted a series of awareness lectures at Mizoram University in Mizoram and at Hengbung in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on May 5–6, 2026, as part of its ongoing outreach initiatives focused on youth engagement and social awareness.

The programmes sensitised more than 240 students and young participants on the dangers of drug abuse, provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the broader social and legal consequences of substance dependency.
Officials also highlighted emerging health concerns, including the neuroscience behind addiction and the role of excessive consumption of high-caffeine energy drinks in increasing vulnerability to substance abuse. The sessions aimed to help young audiences understand behavioural risks and make informed lifestyle choices.
During the interactive lectures, Assam Rifles personnel encouraged students to act as awareness ambassadors within their communities, emphasising the importance of early intervention, peer support, and open dialogue in preventing drug-related issues.
The initiative forms part of the force’s broader commitment to community outreach in the Northeast, focusing on youth empowerment, preventive awareness, and strengthening community resilience against drug abuse.
