Assam Rifles honors fallen soldiers

Dimapur , Mar 12: The Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony to pay tribute to four of its brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during operational duties over the years. The ceremony commemorated Rifleman Gajbir Pun, who fell on 11 March 1962; Rifleman Gangabir Thapa, on 11 March 1969; Rifleman Ram Nath Saha, on 2 March 2000; and Rifleman Joseph Rothangpuia, on 8 March 2010.

The event served as a poignant reminder of the courage, dedication, and selflessness exhibited by these soldiers in the line of duty. Senior officers and personnel of the Assam Rifles participated, laying wreaths and observing a moment of silence in their honour.
During the ceremony, officers highlighted the exemplary service records of the fallen soldiers and underscored their commitment to safeguarding the nation’s frontiers. “Their courage and devotion to duty continue to inspire generations of soldiers and citizens alike,” an official statement read.
The tribute also aimed to reinforce the values of sacrifice and duty among the current and future ranks of the Assam Rifles, reminding all personnel of the sacrifices made to ensure the country’s security and peace.
Officials said that such commemorative events are integral to preserving the legacy of the force and instilling a sense of pride and responsibility among troops deployed across challenging terrains.
