Assam Rifles honours martyr in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 7: Assam Rifles paid solemn tribute to Rifleman (Late) Kul Bahadur Gurung, who made the supreme sacrifice on August 6, 1966, while valiantly fighting Chinese forces in NEFA, during a commemorative ceremony held at the Unit Memorial, Veng, Manipur.

The solemn event marked the 60th anniversary of Rifleman Gurung’s martyrdom and honoured his courage, dedication and sacrifice in the line of duty.
The commemoration featured a wreath-laying ceremony and Guard of Honour, followed by a tribute to the fallen soldier and his exemplary gallantry. Around 160 personnel attended the ceremony, reflecting the deep respect and remembrance accorded to the martyr.
The occasion served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Assam Rifles personnel in the service of the nation, particularly during challenging operational deployments in the Northeast.
Rifleman Gurung's sacrifice remains part of the proud military heritage of Assam Rifles. The force continues to commemorate its fallen personnel to preserve their memory and inspire serving generations to uphold the highest traditions of courage, duty and selflessness.
The 60th anniversary commemoration also highlighted the enduring bond within the force and its commitment to remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending the nation.
Through the solemn observance at Veng, Assam Rifles reaffirmed that the legacy of its fallen heroes continues to guide and inspire its personnel in their ongoing service to the country.
