Assam Rifles honours retirees

Shillong, July 28: Director General of Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, felicitated retiring personnel during a solemn and heartwarming Samman Samaroh held at the Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles (DGAR) in Laitkor, Shillong, recognising their decades of dedicated and selfless service to the nation.

The ceremony honoured 160 personnel, including one officer, 58 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), 99 Other Ranks (ORs), and two civilian staff members, who are scheduled to retire on July 31, 2026 after distinguished careers in the force.
The event became even more memorable with the presence of 85 family members, who had travelled from different parts of the country to celebrate this significant milestone alongside their loved ones.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera expressed his deep appreciation for the unwavering dedication, exemplary professionalism and immense sacrifices made by the retiring personnel during their years of service. He lauded their invaluable contribution to safeguarding the nation's security, maintaining peace in challenging operational environments and upholding the proud traditions of the Assam Rifles.
The Director General also acknowledged the steadfast support of the families of the retirees, noting that their encouragement and sacrifices played an equally important role in enabling the personnel to serve the nation with distinction.
The ceremony featured the presentation of mementos and tokens of appreciation to the retiring personnel as a mark of gratitude for their exceptional service. It also provided an opportunity for colleagues, senior officers and family members to reflect on the retirees' remarkable careers and celebrate their achievements.
