Meluri, Aug 20: Assam Rifles organised an outreach programme titled “A Day with Coy Cdr” at Meluri, Nagaland, bringing together 25 local youth to create awareness about career opportunities in the Armed Forces and paramilitary organisations.
The initiative provided the participants with an opportunity to interact directly with security personnel and gain a better understanding of careers in uniform. The programme combined sports, informal interaction and structured career guidance to build stronger connections between the force and the local community.
The event began with a volleyball match, creating a relaxed and friendly environment for interaction between the youth and Assam Rifles personnel. The sporting activity encouraged teamwork and camaraderie while providing participants an opportunity to engage with the security personnel beyond the formal setting of a recruitment-awareness programme.
The sports interaction was followed by an informative session with the Company Commander, during which the youth were briefed on various aspects of joining the Armed Forces and paramilitary organisations.
The session covered recruitment procedures, eligibility criteria, training requirements, service conditions and career prospects. Participants were also introduced to selected equipment used by security forces, giving them a closer understanding of the professional environment and responsibilities associated with service in uniform.
The interaction was designed to address common questions and misconceptions that young aspirants may have about recruitment and military careers. By providing direct information, the initiative sought to help participants make informed decisions about their future career paths.
For youth in remote and border areas, access to reliable information about recruitment opportunities can be an important factor in pursuing careers in the security forces. Such programmes provide a platform where aspiring candidates can learn about requirements, prepare appropriately and understand the opportunities available to them.
The initiative also reflects the broader emphasis on community engagement and youth empowerment, using interaction and outreach to strengthen relations between security forces and local communities.
By combining sports with career counselling and exposure to the functioning of security forces, “A Day with Coy Cdr” offered participants both an engaging experience and practical guidance.
The programme reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ efforts to encourage local youth to explore structured, disciplined and meaningful career opportunities in the Armed Forces and paramilitary organisations.
For the 25 young participants, the day was more than an interaction—it was a window into a career in uniform and an opportunity to turn curiosity into informed ambition.
