Imphal, May 11: Assam Rifles celebrated Mother’s Day on 09 and 10 May 2026 across Tengnoupal, Pallel, Moreh and Kamjong districts of Manipur, bringing together women and students from Naga, Meitei and Kuki communities in a series of outreach programmes aimed at promoting unity and social harmony.
The events saw participation of around 220 local women and 90 students, focusing on themes of women empowerment, healthcare awareness and community cohesion. Discussions were held on improving access to health services, strengthening the role of women in society, and fostering peaceful coexistence among diverse communities in the region.
Alongside interactive sessions, the programmes included recreational activities, community meals and movie screenings designed to create a relaxed environment for dialogue and mutual understanding. Officials said such engagements are part of ongoing efforts to build trust between security forces and local populations in sensitive border areas.
In Kamjong district, the observance carried a deeply emotional significance when Assam Rifles personnel visited the home of Mrs Olina Ningshen of Kangpat Khunou village. She had recently been rescued after being abducted by KNA (B) and VVEZ militants and was subsequently rehabilitated with the support of security forces.
On Mother’s Day, troops visited her residence to present gifts and essential items, reaffirming their commitment to her welfare and safety. The gesture was widely seen as a symbol of care, compassion and reassurance extended by the security forces to vulnerable civilians affected by militancy.
Officials stated that such initiatives reflect the Assam Rifles’ broader approach of combining security duties with humanitarian outreach, aiming to strengthen bonds of trust and promote lasting peace and stability in the region.
