Assam Rifles marks no smoking day in Nagaland

Meluri, , Mar 12: The AssamRifles observed No Smoking Day in Mokie village, Meluri, Nagaland, on 12 March 2026, aiming to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promote healthier lifestyle practices among the local population.

The event saw participation from 46 civilians, including 12 children, who attended an informative session on the health risks associated with smoking and the importance of preventive healthcare. Officers highlighted the long-term impact of tobacco consumption on respiratory and cardiovascular health, stressing the benefits of quitting smoking and adopting healthy habits.
In addition to the awareness programme, a basic health check-up was conducted for all attendees, providing them with an opportunity to monitor key health indicators and seek early advice on lifestyle-related concerns.
The initiative reflects the Assam Rifles’ continued efforts to engage with communities in Nagaland, promoting public health, preventive care, and awareness on critical lifestyle issues, while strengthening civil-military cooperation at the grassroots level.
