Manipur, June 5: Assam Rifles commemorated World Environment Day 2026 across multiple districts of Manipur through large-scale plantation drives, environmental awareness programmes, and conservation initiatives under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
The campaign was carried out across Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Thoubal, Chandel, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, Kamjong, and Churachandpur districts, where over 18,900 saplings of various indigenous species were planted.
More than 3,400 Assam Rifles personnel, along with families, students, village leaders, NGOs, Forest Department officials, and local residents, actively participated in the drives, reflecting strong community involvement and civil-military cooperation.
Alongside plantation activities, awareness programmes were organised focusing on biodiversity conservation, sustainable living, afforestation, water conservation, and protection of natural spring sources. Participants were sensitised about the importance of preserving ecological balance and adopting environmentally responsible practices in daily life.
Officials said the initiative reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ commitment to ecological sustainability, community welfare, and environmental stewardship. The large-scale participation and outreach highlighted the force’s continued efforts to promote a greener and more sustainable future for Manipur.
