Moreh, June 28: Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, in collaboration with the Moreh Youth Club, observed World Drug Day in Moreh, Tengnoupal district of Manipur, with a strong focus on raising awareness against substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society.
The awareness programme brought together around 75 participants, including local youth and members of the Adullam Drug Rehabilitation Centre and HOPE Rehabilitation Centres. The initiative aimed at sensitising the community, especially young people, about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of prevention, early intervention, and rehabilitation.
Speakers and organisers highlighted the growing challenge of substance abuse in border and vulnerable regions and stressed the need for collective responsibility in addressing the issue. Emphasis was laid on community vigilance, peer support systems, and the role of families and youth groups in preventing addiction at the grassroots level.
The programme also showcased the importance of rehabilitation and reintegration of affected individuals into mainstream society, encouraging compassion and support rather than stigma. Participants were informed about available rehabilitation facilities and support systems that can help individuals recover and rebuild their lives.
As part of the event, all participants took a collective pledge to work towards building a healthier, safer, and drug-free society. The pledge symbolised unity and commitment among security forces, local youth, and rehabilitation representatives in combating the menace of drug abuse.
The event concluded on a positive and hopeful note, with appreciation for Assam Rifles and the collaborating organisations for their continued efforts in community engagement and awareness-building activities in the region.
