April 18, 2026 | BK News Service

Serchhip, April 17: Assam Rifles under Spear Corps organised an educational tour to Shillong for specially-abled children of Shalom Special School, Serchhip, as part of its ongoing community outreach and welfare initiatives.

The initiative aimed to provide the children with exposure beyond their immediate surroundings, offering them an opportunity to explore new places, interact with different environments, and gain experiential learning through travel.
During the tour, the children visited key locations in and around Shillong, where they were introduced to educational, cultural, and social aspects of the region. The programme was designed to encourage confidence, independence, and inclusion among the participants while ensuring full care and support throughout the journey.
Assam Rifles personnel accompanied the group, providing logistical assistance, safety, and guidance at every stage of the tour. Special arrangements were made to ensure accessibility and comfort for the specially-abled children, reflecting a strong focus on sensitivity and inclusivity.
Officials said the initiative is part of Assam Rifles’ broader commitment to community engagement in the Northeast, particularly in remote and underserved areas. Such programmes aim to strengthen bonds with local communities while contributing to the overall development and well-being of children.
Teachers and caregivers from Shalom Special School expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the experience would have a lasting positive impact on the children, both emotionally and socially.
The educational tour concluded successfully, leaving behind memorable experiences and reinforcing the importance of inclusive outreach efforts for specially-abled children.
