In a deeply moving gesture of respect and remembrance, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, along with all ranks of the force, paid heartfelt homage to the valiant soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty on this day.
Observed as a day of solemn remembrance within the force, August 18 marks the sacrifice of brave hearts who epitomized courage, loyalty, and unflinching commitment to the motherland. Their heroic acts, often in the face of overwhelming odds, continue to inspire generations of soldiers and citizens alike.
Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, Lt Gen Lakhera stated:
“The supreme sacrifice of our fallen comrades is a constant reminder of the price we pay to preserve peace and sovereignty. Their names are etched in the heart of our nation. Today, we do not mourn their loss; we salute their courage.”
The ceremony, held at multiple Assam Rifles formations across the country, witnessed wreath-laying rituals, moments of silence, and readings of regimental citations, recalling the stories of gallantry associated with August 18.
Families of the martyrs were also honored in a symbolic gesture that underscored the institution’s unwavering commitment to the soldiers and their kin. Officers and jawans reaffirmed their pledge to uphold the values for which these brave soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice.
