
Ukhrul, Feb 22: Assam Rifles Public Schools (ARPS) at Somsai and Shangshak in Ukhrul district organised literary and cultural competitions on 21 February 2026 to mark International Mother Language Day, fostering linguistic diversity and promoting the preservation of indigenous dialects.
At ARPS Somsai, a Song Competition drew enthusiastic participation from students performing in their respective mother tongues, showcasing the region’s rich musical and cultural heritage. The event highlighted how traditional songs serve as a medium for passing down values, history, and folklore across generations.
Meanwhile, ARPS Shangshak hosted Poem Writing and Debate Competitions in native and regional languages, including Tangkhul and Manipuri. Students demonstrated creativity, confidence, and a strong sense of cultural pride while articulating their thoughts in their mother tongues. The competitions encouraged students to embrace their linguistic identity while developing critical thinking and communication skills.
Winners at both schools were felicitated with prizes and certificates, acknowledging their talent and dedication.
