Imphal, Aug 28: Assam Rifles recovered approximately ₹75 lakh in unaccounted cash during two intelligence-based operations conducted at Chassad in Kamjong district of Manipur on August 24 and 26, officials said.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles personnel launched targeted checking operations to prevent the movement of illicit and unaccounted cash in the border area.
During the first operation on August 24, troops intercepted a white Bolero at RP Gate, Chassad. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of ₹45.10 lakh, which was allegedly concealed inside the vehicle. Four mobile phones were also recovered, and three occupants were apprehended during the operation.
Following the recovery, security personnel maintained surveillance in the area and continued to act on intelligence inputs concerning suspected movement of unaccounted cash.
On August 26, acting on fresh intelligence, troops intercepted a silver Alto at Chassad. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of another ₹29.925 lakh in cash allegedly concealed inside the vehicle. Three occupants were apprehended in connection with the recovery.
Together, the two operations resulted in the seizure of approximately ₹75.025 lakh in cash.
The six individuals apprehended during the operations, along with the two vehicles, recovered cash and other seized items, were subsequently handed over to Chassad Police Station for further legal action and investigation.
The recoveries have highlighted the importance of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and coordinated action in preventing the movement of unaccounted cash through border areas.
The authorities are expected to investigate the source and intended destination of the recovered money and determine whether it was linked to any illegal activity.
The successful operations also underline the role of coordinated security efforts in maintaining vigilance across sensitive areas of Manipur.
Assam Rifles reiterated its commitment to curbing illicit activities, strengthening security and preventing the movement of unaccounted cash and other suspicious consignments in border regions.
