
Aizawl, June 15: Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with CYMA and the Excise & Narcotics Department, successfully intercepted a major narcotics trafficking attempt in the New Vervek–Sakawrdai area of Mizoram on 11 June 2026.
During the operation, security forces apprehended nine individuals reportedly hailing from Manipur. A thorough search led to the recovery of 61 soap cases containing Heroin No. 4 weighing approximately 740 grams, with an estimated market value of around ₹5.55 crore.
In addition to the narcotics, one M4 assault rifle along with nine rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition were also recovered from the possession of the accused, indicating a possible link between drug trafficking and illegal arms movement in the region.
Following established procedures, the recovered weapon was handed over to Sakawrdai Police for further investigation, while the seized narcotics and the apprehended individuals were transferred to the Excise & Narcotics Department, Aizawl for legal action and detailed probe.
Officials said the successful operation underscores the strong inter-agency coordination among Assam Rifles, CYMA, and state enforcement agencies in curbing drug trafficking and arms smuggling along the sensitive border areas of Mizoram.
