Aizawl, July 15: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles, in coordination with sister intelligence agencies and the Mizoram Police, seized 337 grams of Heroin No. 4 valued at approximately ₹2.53 crore in the international market and apprehended two suspected drug traffickers in Mizoram's Saitual district.
The joint operation was carried out on July 12 in the general area of Ngopa Y Junction following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics.
During the operation, security personnel intercepted a suspected vehicle and conducted a thorough search, leading to the recovery of 30 soap cases containing 337 grams of Heroin No. 4. Officials said the seized contraband has an estimated international market value of around ₹2.527 crore.
Two individuals travelling in the vehicle were taken into custody on the spot. The recovered narcotics, along with the vehicle used for transportation, were handed over to the Mizoram Police for further investigation and legal proceedings under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Officials said the successful operation dealt another significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating along the Northeast corridor, which is often exploited for smuggling narcotics across international borders.
Assam Rifles reaffirmed its commitment to working in close coordination with intelligence agencies and state police to curb the menace of drug trafficking and maintain security in the region. The force has intensified surveillance and intelligence-based operations to dismantle cross-border narcotics networks and prevent the flow of illegal drugs into the country
