Nagaland, Aug 19: Reinforcing its commitment to community welfare and prevention of substance abuse, the Assam Rifles under Spear Corps conducted a series of civic action initiatives across Mon, Phek, Noklak and Peren districts of Nagaland.
The outreach programmes combined awareness against drug abuse with essential healthcare services, benefiting residents in several remote villages.
As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, the Assam Rifles organised a pledge programme at Wangti, encouraging community members to collectively reject substance abuse and promote a healthier environment for the younger generation.
The campaign highlighted the social and health consequences of drug addiction and stressed the importance of collective responsibility in preventing substance abuse. Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant, support vulnerable individuals and work together to protect young people from the growing threat of addiction.
Alongside the awareness campaign, free medical check-ups and health screening camps were conducted at Tsupfume, Langnyok and Lilen villages. Medical teams examined local residents and distributed medicines free of cost, providing much-needed healthcare support to communities with limited access to medical facilities.
Women and children were among those who benefited from the medical outreach, which covered basic health screening and consultations.
The initiatives also provided an opportunity for Assam Rifles personnel to interact directly with villagers, understand their concerns and strengthen community engagement in remote areas.
The combination of healthcare assistance and drug-awareness activities underlines the importance of addressing both the social and health dimensions of community welfare. While medical camps provide immediate assistance, awareness programmes seek to build long-term resilience against substance abuse.
The Assam Rifles said such civic action programmes are aimed at strengthening trust between security forces and local communities while contributing to their overall well-being.
The initiatives reaffirmed the force's focus on community partnership, preventive healthcare and youth protection, supporting the broader objective of building a healthy, resilient and drug-free society in Nagaland.
