Imphal, Sep 11: In a continued effort to support local communities and address basic needs, the Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps carried out a series of civic action initiatives across Manipur, focusing on water scarcity, livelihood support and preservation of traditional handloom skills.

Under Operation Sadbhavana, water storage tanks were distributed among residents in Tamenglong district to help alleviate local water shortages. The initiative is aimed at providing communities with a practical means of storing water and improving access to the essential resource, particularly in areas facing persistent scarcity.
In a separate Community Outreach Programme at Kakching, manual weaving looms were provided to women to support livelihood opportunities and encourage economic self-reliance.
The distribution of weaving looms also seeks to preserve and promote the region’s rich cultural handloom traditions by enabling women to continue traditional weaving while creating opportunities for income generation.
The initiatives form part of the Assam Rifles’ broader community engagement efforts in Manipur, aimed at strengthening ties with local communities through welfare-oriented activities and addressing needs at the grassroots level.
Officials said such initiatives are intended to empower communities, promote self-reliance and contribute towards improving the socio-economic well-being of local residents.
