September 02, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Ukhrul, Aug 30: The Assam Rifles conducted a Security Interaction Meeting with the village Headman, members of the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) and representatives of 20 villages at Shangshak in Ukhrul district, focusing on strengthening community engagement, timely information sharing and local security coordination.

The interaction provided a platform for security personnel and community representatives to discuss issues concerning peace, harmony and security in the area. Emphasis was laid on maintaining regular communication between the security forces and local communities to ensure that emerging concerns are identified and addressed at an early stage.
During the meeting, participants highlighted the importance of timely and credible information sharing in maintaining a secure and peaceful environment. Better coordination between village representatives and security personnel can help facilitate a quicker response to local concerns while strengthening mutual confidence.
The meeting also underscored the importance of community participation in maintaining peace. Village representatives, as key stakeholders at the grassroots level, play an important role in communicating local concerns and supporting initiatives aimed at preserving harmony among communities.
The engagement reflected an approach centred on mutual respect and cooperation, with the Assam Rifles personnel interacting with the Headman, CSO members and village representatives in a cordial environment.
As a gesture of goodwill and respect for the visiting security personnel, Assam Rifles troops were presented with a traditional Naga shawl. The gesture reflected the cultural warmth and community spirit associated with such engagements.
The attendees were also felicitated with mementos and gifts, further reinforcing the bond between the security forces and local communities.
Such interactions provide an opportunity to move beyond conventional security engagements and establish stronger people-centric relationships. Regular communication enables security forces to better understand local issues while allowing communities to remain connected with agencies responsible for maintaining security.
The participation of representatives from 20 villages gave the meeting a broad community character and highlighted the importance of collective efforts in addressing security challenges in remote and sensitive areas.
The Assam Rifles has continued to engage with communities through meetings and outreach activities, with an emphasis on building trust, cooperation and shared responsibility.
The Shangshak interaction ultimately reinforced the message that sustainable peace depends not only on security measures but also on community participation, open communication and mutual confidence.
By strengthening grassroots coordination, such engagements can contribute to a more responsive security mechanism while preserving the spirit of harmony and cooperation among local communities in Ukhrul
