Assam Rifles trains personnel on social media security

August 21, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Mokokchung, Aug 20: Assam Rifles conducted an awareness programme on social media violations at Mokokchung, Nagaland, on August 19, focusing on responsible and secure use of digital platforms by its personnel.

The session was aimed at strengthening awareness about the growing security and operational risks associated with the misuse of social media and other digital platforms. Personnel were sensitised to the importance of exercising caution while accessing, creating or sharing content online.
The awareness class covered key aspects of prohibited online activities, protection of sensitive information, service regulations and operational security. Particular emphasis was placed on preventing unauthorised sharing of photographs, videos, documents or other information that could potentially compromise organisational security or damage the reputation of the force.
With social media increasingly becoming an integral part of everyday communication, the programme highlighted the need for personnel to understand that seemingly harmless online activity can sometimes have wider security implications. Information shared on digital platforms can be copied, circulated or misused beyond its original audience.
Personnel were therefore encouraged to maintain vigilance and adhere strictly to applicable service guidelines while using social networking platforms. The programme also reinforced the importance of protecting operational details and exercising discretion when dealing with information related to official activities.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over digital security, misinformation, unauthorised disclosures and attempts to exploit publicly available information. For security organisations, maintaining information discipline is an essential component of operational preparedness.
The awareness programme also sought to promote a culture in which digital responsibility is viewed as part of professional conduct rather than merely a personal choice.
By regularly sensitising its personnel, Assam Rifles aims to strengthen compliance with social media protocols and reduce the possibility of inadvertent information leaks or violations.
The initiative reaffirmed the force’s emphasis on information security, responsible digital behaviour and continuous vigilance, recognising that safeguarding organisational security in the digital age requires awareness and discipline at every level.
In an era where one careless post can travel far beyond its intended audience, digital vigilance has become an essential part of operational security.
