Ukhrul, Feb 5: Assam Rifles successfully concluded a Vocational Tailoring Training Programme for widows of Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen in Ukhrul District, Manipur, on February 4, 2026, as part of its ongoing Civic Action Programme (CAP).
The training, aimed at empowering widows and enhancing their self-reliance, covered all aspects of tailoring, including stitching, pattern making, measurement techniques, garment finishing, and basic entrepreneurial skills. Participants were provided with hands-on sessions using modern sewing machines and tailoring tools to build practical skills that could help them earn a sustainable livelihood.
Officials and troops of Assam Rifles supervised and guided the programme, ensuring personalized support and mentorship for each participant. The initiative also included awareness sessions on financial literacy, marketing strategies, and micro-enterprise management, enabling participants to explore income-generating opportunities in their communities.
A spokesperson for Assam Rifles highlighted that such vocational programmes are part of the force’s broader Civic Action initiatives, which focus on social welfare, skill development, and community empowerment in remote and border areas. “Our goal is to provide meaningful support to families of ex-servicemen, especially widows, helping them become self-sufficient and confident,” the spokesperson said.
Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the training would help them gain independence, improve their quality of life, and contribute economically to their households. Assam Rifles officials assured continued follow-up support and guidance to ensure the participants could successfully translate their skills into livelihood opportunities.
The programme reflects Assam Rifles’ commitment to combining security duties with community engagement, particularly by empowering vulnerable groups in operationally challenging areas of Manipur.
