Chandel, June 1: Assam Rifles hosted internationally acclaimed astrophysicist Dr Ronaldo Laishram at Pallel Garrison in Chandel district on May 31, 2026.

Dr Laishram, known for discovering the 12.6-billion-year-old Loktak Protocluster, shared his inspiring journey from Khangabok village to global scientific recognition. He spoke about perseverance, curiosity, and the importance of research-driven learning in shaping scientific careers.
During his visit, he recorded a special podcast for Highway Radio, where he discussed advancements in astrophysics and the growing role of Indian scientists in global research.
He also interacted with Assam Rifles personnel, speaking on themes of discipline, professional excellence, and continuous self-improvement, drawing parallels between scientific rigor and military dedication.
Later, Dr Laishram engaged with students of Assam Rifles Public School in an interactive session on astrophysics and scientific innovation. He encouraged students to pursue science with curiosity and confidence, emphasizing that knowledge and education can transform lives even in remote regions.
Officials said the initiative reflects Assam Rifles’ continued commitment to promoting education, scientific awareness, and youth inspiration across border and remote areas.
