Search operation continues in Poonch forests for 3rd day
As the search operation to track down the terrorists hiding in the forest area of Poonch continued for the third successive day on Monday, security forces have released a sketch of terrorists and announced Rs 20 lakh reward for sharing information about them.
The security forces today released sketches of two terrorists and announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh is also announced to individuals sharing information about the whereabouts of the terrorists involved in Saturday’s attack on IAF convoy.
As per a lookout notice, people have asked to share information on these numbers 9541051982, 8082294375, 9541051982, 8082294375.
A group of terrorists ambushed the IAF convoy near Shahsitar area of Surankote in Poonch on Saturday evening killing a soldier and injuring four others.
Army, police and CRPF have launched a joint search operation in the Shahsitar and adjoining forest areas in Poonch district following the terrorist attack.
“As part of the ongoing operation, armed bulletproof vehicles are patrolling the area, while a dog squad has been deployed to check vehicles. The search operation aims to track down the terrorists responsible for the attack and ensure the safety of civilians in the region,” a security official said.
He said the army is using drones and helicopters to track down the movement of militants in the dense forest areas.
On Sunday, top security officials including Corps Commander of 16 Corps & ADG Jammu Zone Anand Jain accompanied by GOC Romeo Force, IGP CRPF & DIG RP Range visited the area and monitored the search operation.
“Many suspects have been picked up for questioning so far,” said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Anand Jain.
The security forces have set up nakas and checking is going on in the area.
“The attackers are believed to have fled to a forest after the attack. Besides AK assault rifles, the terrorists also used a US-made M4 carbine and steel bullets to cause maximum casualties, the officials added,” sources said.
“There has been no contact with the terrorists yet. The search operation is going on,” they said.
The border district of Poonch, along with adjoining Rajouri, has witnessed many terror attacks in the past two years.
