Azad literary seminar held in Pulwama

Srinagar, June 30: The Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), in collaboration with the A. R. Azad Memorial Foundation, organised a day-long seminar at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Koil, Pulwama, to commemorate the life, literary legacy and journalistic contributions of eminent Kashmiri writer and journalist Abdul Rehman Azad.

The seminar brought together scholars, writers, academicians, students and literary enthusiasts, who paid tribute to Azad and highlighted his role in promoting Kashmiri language, literature and journalism. Speakers described him as a visionary intellectual whose works continue to inspire generations.
The inaugural session was presided over by noted writer and scholar Rafiq Raaz, with Ayaz Rasool Nazki as chief guest and Rukhsana Jabeen as guest of honour. The dignitaries underscored Azad’s lifelong contribution to Kashmiri literature and journalism and his influence on cultural and literary thought in the region.
In his welcome address, Prof. Nazir Azad highlighted the importance of such literary events in preserving Kashmir’s cultural heritage and introducing young generations to the works of eminent writers.
The keynote address by Prof. Shad Ramzan offered a detailed appraisal of Azad’s literary and journalistic contributions, describing him as a socially conscious writer committed to the growth of Kashmiri language and literature.
A vote of thanks was presented by JKAACL Editor (Kashmiri) Jawaid Iqbal Khan, who reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to promoting literary heritage and honouring distinguished literary figures.
The second technical session, chaired by Prof. Majrooh Rashid, featured scholarly presentations by writers and researchers who discussed Azad’s literary philosophy, journalism, and contribution to Kashmiri prose and criticism.
The seminar concluded with a collective resolve to preserve and promote the works of eminent Kashmiri writers and strengthen the region’s literary traditions through continued scholarly engagement.
