Bagtore Premier League kicks off in Gurez promoting sports

After recent tensions between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), normalcy is gradually returning to the border areas of North Kashmir. The guns have fallen silent, bringing a renewed sense of peace and hope to the residents of Gurez Valley, particularly in Bagtore, where the much-anticipated Bagtore Premier League cricket tournament was inaugurate at High Ground Bagtore near the LoC in Bandipora district.
The opening of the tournament was marked by a vibrant atmosphere, with locals expressing immense happiness and relief. Tourism and sports in the region had suffered significantly during the period of heightened tensions, but with calm restored, community activities are back on track, bringing cheer and optimism to the border population.
Thanks to the support of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Bagtore Premier League has returned with participation from 27 teams across Bandipora district. The tournament aims not just to revive sports culture in the region but also to steer the youth away from harmful addictions and online gambling.
Speaking to the media, one of the organisers expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the participating teams and lauded the Indian Army for their continued support. “Our main aim is to keep our youth away from drugs and online gambling, and engage them in healthy sports activities to ensure their physical and mental well-being. We are also thankful to the civil administration for their cooperation and support.”
A player participating in the tournament shared his excitement, saying, “I feel very grateful that a cricket tournament has begun again in Gurez Valley after the recent border tensions. We are very thankful to the Indian Army’s Commanding Officer, DO Izmarg, and all the organisers for supporting us.”
He added, “With 27 teams competing in this tournament, we hope to promote a strong sporting culture in the region. My message to everyone is: Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life.”
