
Srinagar, April 14: Baisakhi was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, with the devotees thronging different gurdwaras to offer prayers.
The main function in Kashmir was held at Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi in the Rainawari area of the city, which was attended by a huge number of Sikh devotees.
Senior officers of police and civil administration visited the Gurudwara to pay their obeisance. The celebrations by the members of the Sikh community were also held in various districts of the valley.
In Jammu region also, the Sikh community celebrated the Baisakhi with religious fervour and gaity.
Vibrant Baisakhi melas were also held at different places, including Pambadwan Akhnoor, in Udhampur and Binisang.
Special stalls for kids and women were established at the site while children enjoyed camel rides and purchased toys.
The Gurdwaras were decorated and special prayers were offered by the devotees visiting these places.
In connection with the Baisakhi Festival, the famous annual Mela at the Ranbir Canal, Rajinder Park attracted many where temporary shops and stalls were installed.
The main celebrations were held at several Gurdwaras where devotees gathered to offer prayers and seek blessings.
The Gurdwaras were decorated with lights and flowers and the atmosphere was filled with the reciting of devotional hymns.
Baisakhi, which marks the beginning of the harvest season, is also a commemoration of the formation of the Khalsa Panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.
Scores of Sikh devotees were seen participating in bhajan keertans and other religious activities. The Sikh community and other NGOs had set up stalls for langar.
Medical camps were also organised for the event.
Meanwhile, people thronged Mughal gardens, Tulip garden and other parks across Kashmir. People from the Sikh community were seen enjoying the festival with friends and families.
The day marked events at various famous tourist spots, including Pahalgam and Doodhpathri, as well where members of the majority Muslim community also joined the celebrations.
