Srinagar, July 13: At a time when drug addiction has emerged as one of the biggest social challenges confronting the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, a young calligraphy artist from Bemina is sending out a powerful message of hope, creativity and resilience. Rabia Bashir Bhat believes that talent—not drugs—is the true path to peace, purpose and personal growth.

For Rabia, calligraphy is much more than an artistic skill. It is a form of therapy, a source of inner strength and a way of expressing emotions through beautifully crafted words.
"Calligraphy is my positive therapy, not drugs," she says, urging young people to discover their hidden talents instead of falling prey to substance abuse.
With every carefully drawn stroke of her pen, Rabia creates elegant works of Arabic, Urdu and English calligraphy, blending creativity with patience and discipline. Her artwork reflects not only artistic excellence but also the message that art can heal, inspire and transform lives.
She says every individual possesses unique abilities that deserve recognition and nurturing. According to her, engaging in creative activities such as painting, writing, music, calligraphy or any other art form helps reduce stress, builds confidence and keeps young minds focused on constructive pursuits.
"Every youth has a talent. Instead of wasting your life on drugs, invest your time in developing your skills. Your passion can become your strength and your identity," Rabia says.
Her inspiring journey has resonated with many young people who view her as an example of how creativity can become a powerful alternative to addiction. Through her artwork and social outreach, she encourages students and aspiring artists to channel their energy into meaningful activities that contribute positively to society.
Rabia believes that families, educational institutions and society must work together to encourage artistic expression and provide platforms where young talent can flourish. She says promoting art and creativity is equally important in building a healthy and progressive society.
Her message also aligns with the ongoing Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan, which seeks to protect young people from the menace of drug abuse through awareness, community participation and positive engagement.
As Jammu and Kashmir witnesses growing efforts to combat substance abuse, stories like Rabia Bashir Bhat's serve as reminders that creativity, determination and self-belief can become powerful tools for change.
Through the timeless beauty of calligraphy, the young artist from Bemina is not merely creating art—she is inspiring a generation to choose hope over addiction, purpose over despair and talent over drugs.
