Srinagar, Feb 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday organised a live public and media viewing of the Union Budget 2026 at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, aimed at creating awareness about key budgetary provisions and engaging citizens in national economic discourse.
The event witnessed the live telecast of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget speech, attended by party workers, senior BJP leaders, members of civil society, traders, professionals, youth and representatives from the media fraternity.
Mohammad Anwar Khan attended the programme as the chief guest and addressed the gathering after the Budget presentation. He highlighted the Budget’s focus on inclusive development, infrastructure growth, employment generation and welfare measures for the poor and middle class. Khan said the Union Budget reflects the government’s commitment to balanced development across regions, including Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP leaders present at the event said the Budget lays special emphasis on youth empowerment, women-led development, improved connectivity, tourism promotion and support for small businesses, which they said would have a positive impact on the socio-economic landscape of the Union Territory.
Speakers also elaborated on provisions related to agriculture, horticulture, infrastructure, skill development and sustainable tourism, stating that these initiatives would open new avenues of employment and investment in J&K. Particular reference was made to proposals aimed at strengthening road, rail and tourism infrastructure in hilly regions.
Interacting with media persons, BJP representatives said such public viewing programmes help bridge the gap between policy-making and the common citizen by explaining Budget announcements in a simple and transparent manner.
The event concluded with an interactive session, during which participants discussed their expectations from the Budget and sought clarifications on various policy measures. BJP leaders assured that feedback from the public would be conveyed to the party leadership for effective implementation of Budget provisions in Jammu and Kashmir.
