BJP’s dream of having mayor, deputy mayor will never get fulfilled: NC, Cong

As rumors are doing rounds that the BJP was planning to move no confidence motion against Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor and his Deputy, Peoples Conference and Congress on Sunday asserted the BJP’s dream of having its own mayor and deputy mayor will never get fulfilled.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G A Mir said that there was no question that any Congress corporator would support the BJP. “The BJP is running dictatorship and are making people fool. Congress has the highest number of corporators and is the single largest party. We will be calling a meeting of our corporators soon in Jammu,” he said.
On BJP’s claims that no developmental work could be carried out in Srinagar by the incumbent Mayor and his deputy, Mir said, “Neither there has been any developmental work in Jammu nor in Srinagar. But we will never support BJP or any alliance led by it.”
SMC Mayor Junaid Matu said that they have full majority and they can prove that not 40 but 45 corporators were with them. “There is no question of any threat to the mayor or deputy mayor. BJP has just four corporators and it is out of question they can dislodge our mayor or deputy mayor,” he said.
“According to media reports the BJP is claiming the support of some National Conference (NC) corporators. The NC should clear it and issue a whip like the Congress issued to its corporators,” he said.
While the BJP has reportedly claimed the support of 42 corporators, a senior leader of the party said that they will not go for no-confidence motion till they are not sure about the majority.
The incumbent Mayor Junaid Matu and his deputy Sheikh Imran, both belong to Peoples Conference led by Sajjad Gani Lone. Lone and Imran are undergoing detention since August 5 when the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 was revoked.
Commenting on it National Conference senior leader and member parliament Mohammad Akbar Lone said that NC will never cooperate or support BJP on Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts in Srinagar. He has completely rejected the rumour that NC will support BJP in future. (KNS)
