Baramulla, Mar 27: In a bid to restore order on the town’s roads and public spaces, the District Administration Baramulla today carried out a special drive against traffic congestion and illegal encroachments. The initiative was led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Fakuruddin Hamid, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Tehsildar Baramulla, and other senior officials.
The team visited several busy stretches of the town to assess the worsening traffic situation and the rampant occupation of footpaths by vendors and shopkeepers. These encroachments, officials noted, have been a major source of inconvenience for pedestrians and commuters.
Addressing the public during the drive, DC Hamid stressed that the administration is determined to revive the market system and ensure smooth traffic movement. He announced that strict measures will be taken to clear encroachments and streamline vehicular flow. “We are committed to reclaiming public spaces for the people. In the coming days, a comprehensive plan will be implemented to decongest the town and provide lasting relief to citizens,” he said.
The administration has urged shopkeepers and residents to cooperate in maintaining discipline, highlighting that public spaces must remain accessible to all. Officials assured that the upcoming measures will not only ease traffic but also improve pedestrian safety by restoring footpaths to their intended use.
This drive marks the beginning of a broader campaign aimed at reshaping Baramulla into a more organized, pedestrian-friendly, and commuter-safe town.
