
Baramulla, Aug 9: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal sand extraction and unauthorized transportation of minerals, police in Baramulla seized three vehicles and booked three vehicles at different locations across the district.
During naka checking at Delina, a tipper bearing registration No. JK01M-8252 was intercepted while carrying sand without a valid royalty permit. The vehicle was released after necessary action under the MMDR Act. Meanwhile, a raid was conducted at Pachhar Ghat, Jahama, a known point of illegal sand extraction. During the operation, the drivers attempted to flee but were intercepted. Two tractors involved in illegal sand extraction were seized are JK02B-1770 and JK13C-0752. Necessary legal action has been initiated against the vehicles/persons involved under the MMDR Act.
Similarly, during naka checking at Chakloo Naka, one truck bearing Registration No. JK09A-5301, carrying sand illegally, was intercepted. The vehicle was seized under the relevant provisions of the MMDR Act through the District Mineral Officer, Baramulla, for further legal action. In another action during naka checking, one tractor bearing Vehicle No. 9361152707 was intercepted and found carrying sand without a valid royalty permit. Necessary action was initiated under the MMDR Act, following which the vehicle was released as per prescribed procedure.
Meanwhile, during patrolling at Nowpora Wagoora, another tractor was found transporting minerals without valid authorization/documents. The tractor was seized under the relevant provisions of the MMDR Act. After completion of necessary legal formalities under the Act, the vehicle was subsequently released.
Police reiterates its commitment to curbing illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals and urges all stakeholders to strictly comply with the prescribed legal and regulatory requirements.
