
Muzaffarpur, June 18: BR Ambedkar Bihar University will host a large Yoga Sangam event to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2026, at its New Guest House campus. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai will lead the programme, which includes a mass yoga session based on the Common Yoga Protocol, demonstrations and group practice. The event will also feature a live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address.
The programme is expected to draw hundreds of participants and follows the global theme Yoga for Healthy Ageing, announced by the Ministry of Ayush.
Speaking on the theme, Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai said, The theme Yoga for Healthy Ageing emphasises yoga’s role in promoting physical strength, mental clarity, mobility, and overall well-being across all age groups. In the context of rising life expectancy, it supports healthy ageing and helps people maintain vitality.
Prof. Rai added, Yoga is more than physical exercise. It is a timeless philosophy and way of life that supports physical vitality, mental peace, and overall development. At BRABU, we are committed to the well-being of students, faculty, staff, and the community. This Yoga Sangam creates a platform for unity, mindfulness, and harmony while supporting the global goal of healthy ageing.
On the Yoga Sangam initiative of the Ministry of Ayush, Prof. Rai said: “It is a major national effort that brings millions together for collective yoga practice. It spreads awareness of yoga’s benefits and strengthens India’s role in global wellness.”
Prof. Rai invited students, faculty, staff, yoga enthusiasts, and local residents to participate in large numbers. The International Day of Yoga began in 2015 after a UN resolution led by India. This year’s main event will be held in Kolkata, with thousands of programmes across the country and abroad. Senior faculty members present included Prof. Alok Pratap Singh, Prof. Navedul Haque, Prof. Rajnish Gupta, Dr. Navin Kumar and others.
