The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Jammu on Wednesday cleared the Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) report on reservations and forwarded it to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for approval.

The cabinet met at CM’s Jammu residence in the morning today. The cabinet, which besides CM was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and ministers Sakina Itoo, Javed Dar, Satish Sharma and Javed Rana cleared the CSC report during the one hour discussion.

Talking to reporters, Omar said the cabinet has made serious efforts to live up to the expectations of the people while attempting to rationalise the reservation framework in a fair manner.

“We tried to live up to people’s expectations. We tried to rationalise the reservation system as promised and tried to ensure that no injustice is done to anyone,” he said.

Omar said the issue of reservation was treated as a serious matter and required time to address due to its sensitivity.

“This is a serious issue and can easily be politicised. That is why time was taken,” he said, adding that the cabinet worked in a transparent manner.

“The cabinet has done its work. Now the matter is with the LG. Till the file reaches his office, I will not say anything further,” he said.

“This is the third or fourth time that the matter came to the Cabinet after the sub-committee headed by Minister Sakina Itoo submitted its report. We did our best to resolve this matter,” Omar said.

On the stance of the estranged National Conference Lok Sabha MP, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, on the reservation issue, the CM said the government did not do this for anyone’s satisfaction.

“This is not about an individual. This is about the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and we have fulfilled another election promise by completing this process,” he said.

Omar added that the people who were “taunting” the government, claiming it did not do anything about the reservation, are threatening protests if injustice is done to any section
