A Parshuram Shobha Yatra is organized on this day along with performance of Havans ,pujas and Bhandaras .Originally he was called Ram but when Lord Shiva was pleased with his meditation ,he gifted him his Paras(axe) and thus from this development he came to be known as Parshuram .On the auspicious of Parshuram Jayanti people chant Vishnu Sahastranaman and sing devotional songs and mantras overnight .People devote themselves to soulful and calming chants and remember Parshuram on this occasion .
Some people also keep a day long fast to celebrate the pious occasion of Parhuram Jayanti .According to Hindu faith and mythology ,Parshuram is believed to be the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu .Lord Parshuram is also known by the names of Jamadagnya ,Rama Bharagava ,and Veerarama ..Parshuram Jayanti is believed to be the birthday or appearance day of Lord Parshuram .Thus Parshuram Jayanti is celebrated to worship the birth anniversary of the incarnation of Lord Vishnu .The literal meaning of Parshuram is Rama with axe .Lord Vishnu descended on earth as Lord Parshuram to save humanity from the barbarity of Kshatriyas .His appearance was foretold .
When overwhelming evil prevailed on earth ,he corrected the equilibrium of the cosmos by destroying the Kshatriya’ warriors twenty one times .Lord Parshuram stopped the abuse of power ,brute force and tyranny of Kahtriyas. The very purpose of the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu was to exterminate the sinful ,destructive and irreligious monarchs that plagued earth and its resources .Due to ability to bring the balance of power ,end evil and provide retribution ,Lord Parshuram is held in high esteem. .He is worshipped on the birth anniversary or when he appeared on earth .Unlike all other avatars of Lord Vishnu ,Lord Parshuram still lives on earth .It is believed that Lord Parshuram was born during Pradosh Kala and hence the day when Tritiya prevails during Pradosh Kala is considered Parushram Jayanti celebration .As per Hindu calendar ,it generally falls on the third day of Shukla Paksha in Vaishak .And according to the Gregorian calendar this day falls in either the month of April or May .The festival is celebrated with enthusiasm and zest throughout the country .Since it is believed that Lord Parshuram is immortal ,he is not worshipped like other gods or goddesses. Thus ,Lord Parshuram is worshipped through having a Laxmi Narayan Puja where you can offer Tulsi ,fruits ,flowers ,chandan and Kumkum to Lord Parshuram. .
This puja is performed to get abundance ,prosperity ,wealth ,good luck .and happiness among many other things .On the day of Parshuram Jayanti people chant Vishnu Sahasranamam and sing devotional songs and mantras overnight .People devote themselves to soulful and calming chants and remember Parshuram on this occasion .Some people also keep a day long fast to celebrate the pious occasion of Parshuram Jayanti..The fast starts a day before and ends after sunset on Parshuram Jayanti .Parshuram Jayanti coincides with Akshaya Tirtiya ,which too is a Hindu festival signifying the third day of unending prosperity .So people donate grains, clothes, and other items to Brahimns and the needy and poor for good luck and prosperity .The purpose of the sixth incarnation of Vishnu is to relieve the Earth’s burden by exterminating the sinful ,destructive and irreligious monarchs that pillaged its resources and neglected their duties as Kings. According to Hindu belief unlike all other avatars Parashurama still lives on the Earth .Therefore ,unlike Rama and Krishna ,Parshuram is not worshipped .In southern India, at the holy place Pajaka near Udupi ,one major temple exists which commemorates Parshurama .There are many temples at the western coast of India which are dedicated to Lord Parshurama .Devotees visit these temples on Parshuram Jayanti and offer flowers ,grains and currency coins to celebrate this festival .
The name Parshuram literally means Rama with Parshu-that is axe .It is believed that Lord Parshuram descended on earth to save the people from the menace of Kshatriyas. .Lord Parshuram descended to earth to save the people from the cruelty and barbarity of Kshatriyas and thus he exterminated them for ignoring them and keeping them in dark .Thus Parshuram Jayanti is the day when Hindu God Parshurama appeared on the earth .He is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu .In 2023 it will be celebrated on 22rd of April .The sole aim of the Parshuram avatar was to annihilate the Kshatriyas – the warrior class that had strayed from the path of Dharma and oppressed people and destroyed mother earth .As per Hindu mythology ,it is believed that Parshurama’s avatar is immortal and still lives on earth. According to Kalki Purana ,the 10th and the final avatar of Lord Vishnu is Kaliki and Parshuram is the martial teacher of Kaliki .It is also said that Parshuram was a great warrior and also the guru of Bishma ,Karna and Dronachary .
As per the Harivansh Purana from Haideya dynasty ,the king Kartaveerya Arjun of Mahishmati Nagar in the present day central India was brutal and people were fearing a lot of difficulties due to the barbarity of Kshatriyas in his kingdom. .Goddess Earth then invoked Lord Vishnu and he came in the form of Parshuram .It is said that he freed the Earth 21 times from the Kshatriyas .Devotees take a holy bath before sunrise and wear clean traditional clothes at the start of the day .A fast is observed on this day which starts the night before. .Laxminarayan ,a form of Vishnu is worshipped by devotees .People take satvik aahar-diet which includes milk and milk products .Bogh of fruit and milk products are offered by the devotees to this incarnation of Lord Vishnu. People also offer flowers ,Kumkum and chandan to Lord Vishnu .Parshuram Jayanti is also celebrated as Akshya Tritiya in many parts of India .It denotes the birth of Lord Parshuram ,the sixth incarnation of Lords Vishnu .In short Lord Parshuram means the incarnation of Lord Rama with axe ,he descended on earth to save it from the cruelty of the Kshatriyas .Remembering Parshurama mantra ,helps one to defeat enemies ,gives courage to overcome obstacles and it helps in defeating all kinds of fears in life .Let us celebrate this auspicious day with great devotion to Lord Parshuram and respect and remember his freeing the mankind from the cruelty and barbarity of Kshatriyas.
