As a philanthropist, my father was deeply committed to helping others, often silently supporting families in need, offering guidance to youth, and contributing to religious and community causes. His acts of kindness never sought recognition
As Father’s Day approaches, it is a time for many of us to reflect on the invaluable presence, guidance, and sacrifices of the fathers who shaped our lives. For me, this day is not just a celebration—it is a remembrance. A remembrance of my beloved father, Ab. Rahim Wani, who left this world on 25th August 2020, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, discipline, and unshakable values.
Known fondly by many in our town as "Abba", my father was not only a doting parent and a caring husband but also a pillar of respect and service in our community. He retired as a police officer, having dedicated his professional life to the principles of law, order, and public welfare. Even after retirement, his role in our lives and in society did not end. In fact, it only evolved—from an officer in uniform to a wise elder whose words carried the weight of experience, and whose actions continued to inspire.
To us, his children, Ab. Rahim Wani was more than just a father—he was a source of unconditional love, guidance, and strength. His concern for our wellbeing was never loud or boastful, but always deeply felt. Whether it was through a warm gesture, a protective word, or a quiet prayer, his love was steady and ever-present. He worked hard all his life to provide us not only with food and shelter but with values that will last a lifetime—honesty, humility, hard work, and faith.
As a philanthropist, my father was deeply committed to helping others, often silently supporting families in need, offering guidance to youth, and contributing to religious and community causes. His acts of kindness never sought recognition. His satisfaction came from seeing others smile, from knowing he had done his part. The town still remembers him as someone who was always ready to lend a helping hand—not for show, but from the depths of his generous heart.
His religious devotion was profound. He lived his faith quietly but consistently. A man of prayer, discipline, and moral integrity, he would often be found immersed in his spiritual practices, reciting verses or reflecting in solitude. He believed that true religion lies not only in rituals but in living a righteous life—being kind, fair, and true. That was the kind of faith he practiced and passed on to us.
In our household, Abba was the binding force. His presence brought peace, his voice brought calm, and his values brought purpose. He was never harsh but always firm, never judgmental but always wise. His principles never wavered, and his actions spoke louder than any words. He believed in simplicity, respected education, and always encouraged us to be better human beings before anything else.
The void his departure left on 25th August 2020 can never truly be filled. But his life continues to be a guiding light. On this Father’s Day, I do not only mourn his absence—I celebrate his life. I celebrate a father who stood tall in his values, who loved with all his heart, and who gave his family the kind of foundation that not even time can shake.
To all those who still have their fathers, cherish them. Spend time with them. Listen to their stories, observe their lives, and learn from their strengths and their silences. And to those like me, who carry their father in memory, let us live our lives in ways that would make them proud. Let our conduct, our words, and our kindness reflect the lessons they taught us.
My father may have left this physical world, but he remains alive in our values, our actions, and our love. On this Father’s Day, I raise my hands in prayer and gratitude, and say: Thank you, Abba. Thank you for everything. May your soul rest in eternal peace.
