Srinagar, Oct 23: Class 10 students who appeared in the JKBOSE Urdu annual regular examination on October 22 have demanded five grace marks, alleging errors in two questions that left them confused during the test.
The students have urged the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) to review the disputed questions and ensure fair and uniform evaluation for all candidates.
The first objection relates to Question 8, carrying four marks, which tested sentence structure and grammatical analysis. According to the students, the question offered an internal choice between two verbal sentences instead of providing the intended grammatical alternatives of a nominal sentence and a verbal sentence.
The sentences cited were “Ladki ne khoobsurat gaana gaaya” (The girl sang a beautiful song) and “Woh kitaab likh raha hai” (He is writing a book). Students contend that both are verbal sentences, making the internal choice grammatically unsuitable. They have sought four grace marks for the question.
The second objection concerns a one-mark multiple-choice question based on the sentence “Rashid bohut ghareeb hai” (Rashid is very poor). The students allege that the correct grammatical option relating to the subject was missing from the choices provided and have demanded one additional grace mark.
The students said the alleged errors caused confusion and consumed valuable examination time as they tried to understand the questions and available options.
They have appealed to JKBOSE to obtain an expert opinion on the disputed questions and clarify the evaluation process, urging the board to award five grace marks if the errors are confirmed.
The board’s response to the students’ demands was not available at the time of filing this report
