June 16, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, June 15: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday handed over appointment letters to 132 newly recruited Junior Engineers (Civil) of the Public Works (Roads & Buildings) Department at a function held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar.

Addressing the appointees and their families, the Chief Minister said the occasion marked a major milestone in their lives and urged them to treat their appointment not merely as a government job but as a responsibility towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Congratulating the recruits from across the Union Territory, he said the selection reflected years of hard work, perseverance and family support. He stressed that public service demands honesty, integrity and commitment, noting that government funds must be used responsibly for public welfare.
“The people expect quality services and durable infrastructure. Every rupee belongs to the public and must be used judiciously,” he said.
Highlighting the role of engineers in development, Omar Abdullah said infrastructure such as roads, bridges and hospitals must be built to last for generations. He added that quality and durability should never be compromised in execution of public works.
He urged the young engineers to maintain professional ethics and accountability, saying true satisfaction lies in honest and efficient service. He also advised them to serve in all postings, including remote and underserved areas, instead of seeking immediate transfers.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Engineer-in-Chief (Technical) PWD Purshotam Kumar also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of engineers in strengthening infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said the new recruits are expected to play a key role in planning, execution, monitoring and quality assurance of public works projects across the Union Territory.
