Jammu, Aug 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of urban development projects worth over ₹60 crore in Jammu, reaffirming his government's commitment to building sustainable, inclusive and people-centric infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.

The projects include new works worth over ₹28 crore and the inauguration of completed projects valued at around ₹32 crore, covering green mobility, heritage conservation, tourism infrastructure and civic amenities.
A major highlight was the foundation stone for a depot for 100 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme at Bhagwati Nagar. The ₹23.04-crore project, to be executed by Jammu Smart City Limited, will provide charging and maintenance infrastructure for the city's upcoming electric bus fleet, promoting cleaner and more efficient public transport.
The Chief Minister also virtually laid the foundation stone for the ₹5.14-crore rejuvenation and restoration of the Tan Talab Kundarorian Nallah in Katra, aimed at improving sanitation, ecological health and the urban environment in the pilgrimage town.
Among the inaugurated projects was the Tawi Wonderland (Waste-to-Wonder Park) at Bhagwati Nagar, developed under the Smart City Mission at a cost of ₹11 crore. Built using recycled materials, the park features artistic installations and recreational spaces and will be operated under a public-private partnership for the next ten years.
Omar Abdullah also dedicated the ₹15.74-crore Heritage Trail and Site Beautification Project, designed to preserve Jammu's cultural heritage while enhancing public spaces, pedestrian facilities and tourism potential.
The Chief Minister further inaugurated the modernised Food Street at Bahu Fort, developed at a cost of ₹1.65 crore, and the ₹3.61-crore Shopping-cum-Municipal Complex at Akhnoor, which is expected to strengthen civic infrastructure and improve commercial facilities in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah said the Waste-to-Wonder Park has the potential to emerge as one of Jammu's major tourist attractions, adding that innovative projects of this nature will help strengthen the city's identity as a tourism destination.
He appreciated the Housing & Urban Development Department and Jammu Smart City Limited for successfully executing the projects and said the electric bus depot would significantly improve the city's public transport system by supporting the induction of a new fleet of e-buses.
The Chief Minister said the newly inaugurated projects—including the Heritage Trail, Bahu Fort Food Street and Akhnoor Municipal Complex—reflect the government's continued focus on improving urban infrastructure and public amenities.
Emphasising that development must remain uninterrupted, Omar Abdullah said his government is committed to serving every region without discrimination and will continue to prioritise transformative initiatives, including riverfront development, despite financial constraints.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, legislators, senior civil and police officers, and officials of the Housing & Urban Development Department attended the event.
