
Gulmarg, Sonamarg receives fresh snowfal
The Meteorological department Kashmir on Wednesday said the cold and dry weather conditions would continue across Kashmir during next ten days.
“The weather will likely remain dry from December 12-20. Overall nothing significant weather activity till December 20,” the MET official said.
He said the cold and dry weather will generally prevail over many weather stations during the next 10 days.
The MeT said that in view of sub-freezing temperature and icy conditions over roads of important passes and higher reaches, the tourists, travelers and transporters are advised to follow advisories from administration and traffic department.
Meanwhile, the ski resort of Gulmarg received over an inch of fresh snowfall while the picturesque Sonmarg in Central Kashmir had received 3 inches of snow.
Reports of snowfall were also received from Zojila pass on Srinagar-Ladakh highway, Sadhna Top in Kupwara and Gurez Valley in Bandipora district.
The night temperature stayed below freezing point in Kashmir on Wednesday.
In Srinagar, the minimum temperature settled at minus 3.0°C in the night.
Gulmarg remained the coldest place with night temperature dropping to minus 6.0°C. This was 2.4°C below normal for the valley of meadows in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
The night temperature at Qazigund settled at minus 4.4°C while in Kokernag, minimum temperature settled at minus 2.-0°C.
In Kupwara, the mercury dropped to -4.5 degrees Celsius.
