Srinagar records season’s coldest night at minus 0.8°C
Kashmir on Monday woke up into an early morning foggy and cold weather conditions as the minimum temperature in the valley dropped below the freezing point at several places, including the Srinagar city.
The cold wintry conditions prevailed across the Valley today.
The haze and fog engulfed at many places, including the world famous Dal Lake and its adjoining localities, affected the visibility in the area. The thick blanket of fog reduced visibility and caused inconvenience to commuters during the morning.
The commuters had to move their vehicles on roads in Srinagar, including the Boulevard Road, while keeping on the headlights amid dim visibility due to thick fog to avoid chances of accidents.
A Meteorological department official said Srinagar recorded the minimum temperature of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius, which was 1.2 degrees below the normal temperature for this time of the year.
It was the coldest night of the season in Srinagar so far.
According to MeT official, Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 0.4°C.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.6°C, below 1°C than the normal.
Kokernag recorded a minimum of 1.2°C which was normal for the place, the official said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.8°C which was 1.°C below normal, the official said.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum of minus 1.2°C and it was normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, the official said.
The MeT official said J&K would experience mainly dry weather with occasional cloudiness till November 26.
“Overall, no significant weather activity is expected till November 26. There is going to be shallow fog with mist during morning and evening hours,” he said.
