Colleges reopen across J&K’s winter zone

‘Cheerful students hold animated reunions after winter break’

All the colleges located in the winter zones of Jammu and Kashmir resumed academic activities on Wednesday after a 50-day winter vacations.
Cheerful students could be seen holding animated reunions with their colleagues after the culmination of the winter break. Amid prevailing cold conditions, a bright sunshine made the discussions even more enticing.
“We didn’t do much academic work today. After all it was the first day of college after the winter break. Even our teachers were not so strict today. I spent most of the time in canteen today,” said a student of Amar Singh college in Srinagar, who didn’t wish to be named.
The faculty members of the colleges were also seen catching up with their colleagues in the campus which saw the return of the festive atmosphere, which also marks the beginning of the arrival of spring in the Valley.
According to reports, there was a rush of students at the bus stops with an increase in private cars on the roads. The jump in passenger footfall also brought cheer on the faces of drivers of passenger taxis like Tata Sumo and others.
In December last year, the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department announced winter vacations for all government degree Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Higher Education Department order had said that the degree colleges falling in Kashmir and the winter zones of the Jammu division will observe winter vacation from December 27 to February 14-2023.
It had also said that the degree Colleges falling in the summer zone of the Jammu division shall observe the vacation from January-1 to January-10-2023
