Hadith also mentions that both the giver and receiver of a bribe will end up in Hell. Nowadays, corruption is rampant in every department. If we consider the future of our country, our students are its future, but they too fall victim to bribery
In today's world, almost every department has some officer involved in corruption. Corruption is an illegal and morally unacceptable act where financial or non-financial benefits are given to a person or institution to obtain some advantage or to expedite or facilitate a task. In corruption, the bribe giver provides cash, services, or other benefits to achieve a personal or business goal.
The sin of bribery is considered worse than that of drinking alcohol or immoral behavior. In today's world, corruption has become common, with officials from clerks to officers being involved. We need to eliminate corruption. We are ourselves responsible for this corruption. If we stop giving bribes, then bribery will end, but we resort to bribery to get our work done. In Islam, bribery is a sin and is also a legal crime. We should work towards eradicating bribery by neither giving nor accepting bribes.
Those whom Allah has not blessed with a job earn their livelihood with dignity and hard work. However, those who have been blessed with a job often exploit it for personal gain by accepting bribes. Such individuals should feel ashamed because Allah has granted them a job, while many deserving people remain unemployed. The person blessed with a job should be thankful to Allah instead of indulging in bribery. If someone has two palaces, one built with bribes and the other with honest labor, they use the bribe money to educate their children. Consequently, the children of the poor, who are educated with honest earnings, often succeed more than those of the wealthy, who are educated with illicit money. The children of the rich may end up involved in vices such as drugs and alcohol, jeopardizing their future.
Hadith also mentions that both the giver and receiver of a bribe will end up in Hell. Nowadays, corruption is rampant in every department. If we consider the future of our country, our students are its future, but they too fall victim to bribery. Whether it's a board exam, IAS, KAS, or any other exam, cheating is common. For example, there was a major scandal involving NEET recently, where deserving students who worked hard were wronged because some people in the education department were involved in bribery. Those who had money could become doctors while those deserving couldn't. This is a shameful issue for our country and government, which must take action against bribery.
Corruption violates the principles of justice and honesty. According to Islamic teachings, bribery is not only morally wrong but also a serious crime. Bribery is worthless—if you take three thousand as a bribe, you might end up spending double that amount on a family member's illness. Thus, bribery brings no benefit but only sin and disgrace. It is better to avoid bribery and seek blessings from Allah through honest earnings.
Our country is an Islamic nation, but unfortunately, many individuals are involved in various sins. Our society faces issues in economic, political, moral, and religious matters, and truth is opposed with falsehood. Falsehood is defined as anything contrary to justice, Sharia, norms, and truth. This results in the presence of lies, deceit, interest, gambling, theft, and bribery—actions deemed unlawful by Sharia and criminal by law.
Particularly, bribery is a curse that leads to societal instability and despair. Islam is founded on justice, balance, and truth, and prohibits the consumption of others' wealth unlawfully. Bribery is a malignant disease that affects society, leading to injustice and the bloodshed of integrity. A society where bribery becomes common experiences discord and turmoil.
We must strive to avoid bribery and protect society from this sin. Bribery is a serious sin and will certainly be punished. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that Allah's curse falls upon both the giver and receiver of bribery. I appeal to the government to root out bribery and implement strict laws, including capital punishment for those who accept bribes.
If bribery is not punished in this world, it will surely be punished in the hereafter. I pray to Allah to protect us from this curse and its destructive effects in both this world and the hereafter. Ameen.
