
After laying the foundation stone of the Sharda Yatra Base camp temple and center at Tetwal village near the Line of Control in the same year, the construction work is in full swing and about 70% of the work has been completed.
After reclaiming the land, the construction of the ancient Sharda Peth Pilgrimage Camp in Tetwal area, very close to the Line of Control, has been undertaken. Pilgrims through this ancient traditional route used to go to the ancient Sharda Peeth temple which is currently in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and perform religious duties there. Relatives used to regularly visit the Sharda temple. Further this place was the center of attraction for tourists from China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Korea and elsewhere. While the place of Sharda Peeth is the holiest place for the followers of Hindu religion, it is historically the prominent academic center of its time and is therefore considered the oldest university in the world.
This important religious place is in the border district of Kupwara. Teetwal which is 136 kilometers away from the traditional ancient route.The construction of base camp and temple being constructed in Tetwal is being supervised by the founder and president of Save Sharda Committee Kashmir Ravinder Pandita while at the local level for its construction a committee has also been framed in which local Muslims are involved and they are playing their role in the construction of the Base camp.
Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti also wrote a letter to the Prime Minister in 2018 advocating the opening of this corridor from Tetwal to Sharda Peth on the pattern of Kartarpur Corridor. There was a demand that the Sharda Peeth should be opened for Pandit pilgrims.
