
A policeman was killed in an encounter with terrorists in forest area of Udhampur district on Monday.
Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone in a post on X said, “On a precise input from J&K Police, contact was established with terrorists at village Soan, Majalta in the Udhampur district.”
He said the joint team of Special Operation Group along with Army and CRPF are on job.
Sources said during the initial exchange of gunfire, a policeman received critical bullet wound.
He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
The deceased cop has been identified as Amjad Pathan.
Unconfirmed reports said one terrorist has also been killed in the encounter. However, there has been no official confirmation sofar.
Additional troops have been rushed to the area to tighten the siege and prevent militants from escaping from the besieged area.
