When the world is torn apart by wars and Artificial Intelligence is knocking at our doors, people are caught in a whirlpool of instability. This instability has crept into every corner of our lives, creating a desperate cry for a panacea—remedies that can act as an ointment for our deep wounds. When injuries turn into festering sores, there arises an urgent need for something that can set things right.
In the dark tunnels through which we are moving, what can help us traverse the stormy waters of this violent ocean? Mental frustrations are on the rise. The social fabric lies torn into pieces. Almost everyone lives under a shadow of gloom. For many, living has become a burden, while death appears as an easy escape. In such troubled times, what is the path we should follow? I firmly believe the solution lies in counselling.
From children to the elderly, everyone is in dire need of it. There are many reasons behind this growing necessity:
Competition
The constant race for material gains has created enormous pressure. It is evident that everyone cannot achieve everything they desire. In this battle of unending expectations, failure is inevitable for many. At such moments, counselling plays a crucial role in soothing restless and overburdened minds.
Imitation
In trying to imitate others, we have forgotten our true selves. In the pursuit of becoming "someone else," many of us have ended up becoming no one. Every individual’s position and journey are different. Walking in someone else’s shoes, without realizing the risks, often leads us nowhere. Here again, counselling helps us rediscover our identity and strengths.
Jealousy
This has caused immense damage to society. Very few people are genuinely happy about the success of others. The prosperity of one often becomes a thorn in the eye of another. A jealous person cannot live in peace, as their mind remains occupied with others’ achievements. In such situations, counselling offers clarity and helps people overcome destructive emotions
Family disputes
These are perhaps the most common and devastating problems. Almost every other household struggles with conflicts. Such disputes snatch away peace of mind and make life unbearable. Here too, counselling aids in mending broken relationships, rebuilding communication, and restoring harmony.
In short, we must rise to the occasion and begin setting things right in the present moment, which is more disturbing than ever before. External challenges may be beyond our control, but we do have the potential to grow internally strong enough to face them. Counselling is not a luxury but a necessity—it can serve as a panacea for many of our problems.
We need trained and compassionate counsellors to guide us through these invisible battles of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. For how long shall we keep fighting these silent monsters when effective remedies are within our reach?
