Srinagar, Oct 21: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Tuesday reviewed the proposed PM Ekta Malls in Jammu and Srinagar, aimed at showcasing the region’s handicrafts, handlooms, indigenous products and cultural heritage while expanding market access for local producers.
The meeting assessed the progress of the projects being undertaken by the Industries and Commerce Department through the Public Works Department (PWD).
Dulloo highlighted the potential of the malls to strengthen market linkages for artisans, craftspeople and entrepreneurs, promote tourism and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities. He also stressed their role in providing greater visibility to products covered under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative and those carrying Geographical Indication (GI) tags.
Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Vikramjit Singh informed the meeting that the Jammu Ekta Mall is proposed to be built over 24 kanals at the Rail Head Complex, with an approved cost of ₹125 crore.
The facility will have approximately 2.14 lakh square feet of floor space across two basement levels, a ground floor and three upper floors. It will house retail outlets, workspaces, a craft museum or art gallery, exhibition and trade facilitation spaces, a food court and family amenities.
The Srinagar Ekta Mall is proposed at the Kashmir Haat Complex on the Jehangir Chowk–Batmaloo Road, spread over 15 kanals. Approved at a cost of ₹130 crore, the six-level facility will have approximately 1.81 lakh square feet of floor space.
Its proposed facilities include retail shops, a craft museum, exhibition hall, trade facilitation spaces, an auditorium, an indoor amphitheatre, food and dining facilities, and guest accommodation.
The meeting was informed that the contract committee had considered both projects on October 19, with Letters of Award expected by the third week of November 2026.
The malls are proposed to be operated and maintained under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, with private partners to be selected through competitive bidding, while the government retains policy and strategic oversight.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the PWD, Industries and Commerce, Planning and other concerned departments.
