Ganderbal, Oct 28: The Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Srinagar, on Wednesday organised a workshop on “Probity for Prosperity” for faculty members and administrative staff at its Tulmulla campus as part of Vigilance Awareness Week, being observed from October 26 to November 1.
Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir stressed that transparent procedures, proper documentation and responsible decision-making were essential to preventing irregularities and strengthening public confidence in institutions. He called for a preventive approach to address procedural weaknesses before they lead to complaints or other consequences.
Addressing the gathering, DSP ACB Mehraj-ud-Din Raina said combating corruption required collective efforts by public institutions, government departments, educational establishments and citizens. He emphasised fairness, transparency and accountability in the use of public funds and institutional resources.
ACB Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Beigh explained the Bureau’s procedures for examining corruption complaints, including verification and investigation as prescribed by law. He identified procurement, construction, recruitment, admissions, scholarships and research grants as areas requiring transparency, clarifying that procedural lapses did not automatically amount to corruption and that every complaint must be assessed on its merits and available evidence.
Earlier, Dean, School of Legal Studies, Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir, said corruption extended beyond bribery to include misuse of authority, favouritism and neglect of official responsibilities. Citing Mahatma Gandhi, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, he highlighted the enduring value of integrity and public service.
Dean Students Welfare Dr Jehirul Islam said probity was a conscious commitment to doing what was right even when no one was watching, adding that lasting prosperity rested on integrity, honesty and transparency.
Senior Assistant Professor Dr Firdous Ahmad Sofal conducted the programme and proposed the vote of thanks, emphasising the need to foster a culture of honesty and accountability in public institutions.
