
VC urges focus on research and innovation
The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at its Tulmulla Campus, where Vice-Chancellor Prof. A Ravinder Nath hoisted the National Flag and addressed the university community.
The event witnessed participation from Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty, administrative staff, research scholars, and students. A march past was performed by the security wing and students of the Department of Physical Education.
In his address, Prof. Nath congratulated the university fraternity and the people of India, urging students and faculty to contribute proactively towards building a self-reliant and progressive India. He emphasized the need for academics to produce socially responsible leaders and promote knowledge creation through research to empower the nation’s economy.
Highlighting the potential of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, the VC encouraged students to explore sectors beyond services, including manufacturing and agriculture, to boost employment. He stressed the importance of intellectual property, innovation, and a strong research culture to enhance India’s global standing.
Prof. Nath expressed hope that CUKashmir would soon feature on the National Portal of academic excellence, rankings, and accreditations, calling on all stakeholders to take ownership of the university’s growth, cleanliness, sustainability, and reputation. He linked this vision to national missions like Viksit Bharat 2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Commending initiatives such as ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’, Prof. Nath praised the recent patriotic activities on campus for instilling a renewed sense of national pride. He also encouraged students to explore government platforms like Viksit Bharat, Swachh Bharat, My Bharat, and apply for global opportunities such as the Aspiring Leadership Program by Harvard Business School, especially designed for first-generation learners. “I want to see one or two CUK students at Harvard next year,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic cloudburst in Chisoti village, Kishtwar, and extended condolences to the affected families.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, who also delivered the vote of thanks.
In parallel celebrations, the tricolor was hoisted at the Green Campus by Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, Dean, School of Business Studies, and at Nuner Campus by Prof. Mohammad Yousuf, Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. Faculty, staff, scholars, and students participated enthusiastically at both campuses.
