Ganderbal, July 23: The Department of Biotechnology, School of Life Sciences, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), on Thursday organised a one-day workshop on "Engineering Smart Polymeric Scaffolds and Functional Nanomaterials for Biomedical Applications" under the Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) component of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).

Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research, innovation and skill-oriented education in addressing emerging healthcare challenges and advancing biomedical sciences.
He said higher educational institutions must foster research ecosystems that encourage innovation, intellectual property generation and translational science capable of delivering tangible societal benefits. Highlighting the growing significance of polymeric biomaterials and nanotechnology, he said these technologies hold immense potential in targeted drug delivery, biosensors, cancer therapeutics and regenerative medicine.
Prof. Nath added that the workshop reflects the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, which promotes multidisciplinary education, research excellence and skill development.
Registrar Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir emphasized that modern healthcare breakthroughs increasingly emerge from collaboration between disciplines such as physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and computational sciences. He encouraged young researchers to embrace interdisciplinary approaches and build research partnerships to translate scientific discoveries into practical healthcare solutions.
Earlier, Dean, School of Life Sciences, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar, highlighted the role of interdisciplinary research in addressing complex scientific and societal challenges, stating that research should ultimately contribute to human welfare.
Welcoming the participants, Dr. Anil Chandra, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology and Organising Secretary of the workshop, said the programme was designed to enhance scientific awareness, encourage innovation and strengthen collaboration between leading scientists and young researchers.
The technical session featured expert lectures by Dr. Faheem Arjumand Sheikh (University of Kashmir), Dr. Tariq Maqbool, Dr. Mudasir Bashir Gugjoo (SKUAST-Kashmir), and Mr. Manish Amin, Director, Avay Biosciences, who shared insights into emerging trends in biomedical research and nanotechnology.
