Ganderbal, Feb 28: The Central University of Kashmir, in collaboration with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), organized a State-Level Workshop on “Capacity Building of Stakeholders for Nationwide Roll-out of NPST & NMM” at its campus on Saturday.
The workshop was part of a nationwide outreach initiative aimed at strengthening teacher professionalism and mentoring systems under the National Education Policy 2020. Around 200 participants attended in person and over 800 joined online, including teachers, DIET principals, nodal officers, and representatives from KVS and other institutions across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The focus was on the Ministry of Education’s flagship initiatives—National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) and the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM)—designed to establish benchmarked professional standards and structured mentoring frameworks for continuous teacher development.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath described Kashmir as a “Gyan Bhoomi” and emphasized that teaching shapes national character. He highlighted the need for balanced professional competence, ethical grounding, and attention to teachers’ and students’ holistic well-being.
NCTE Academic Advisor D.K. Chaturvedi, addressing virtually, termed the workshop part of a national mission to register 25,000 teachers on the NPST portal and one lakh mentors under NMM. Registrar Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir stressed that while access to education has expanded, excellence remains the key challenge.
Experts outlined NPST’s three pillars—preparation, practice, and performance—and explained progressive professional levels: Proficient, Advanced, and Expert. Interactive technical sessions provided demonstrations of the NPST and NMM portals and facilitated discussions on effective implementation.
The workshop concluded with a collective resolve to advance quality, mentoring, and professional standards in alignment with NEP 2020.
